IN the week we hear about the pounds 20,000 hair cut (how rich do you have to be to see that as an option in your life?) I was also just a bit gobsmacked over Alexandra Burke’s birthday presents from her X Factor mates.
At just 21, and an unknown until a year ago, she now dresses in designer clothes and eats in Nobu. I don’t begrudge her any of that, fair play to her – but WOW! Did she get showered with lavish gifts! Cheryl Cole treated her to a pounds 5,000 holiday in the Seychelles, and Simon Cowell jumped a year-long waiting list to buy her a Chanel handbag, worth pounds 7,000.
Seven THOUSAND pounds. On a bag.
How can a piece of cow hide, even if it was held together with real gold thread and adorned with diamonds be worth seven grand? And I know that actually compared to Victoria Beckham’s collection, that’s small fry, but I just can’t see how it’s not obscene that a handbag can be worth that much. Can you tell I’m a little bit worked up about this? And breathe…
